Trip reports
2 - GOOD on 03/05/2008
Right on schedule, the San Miguel's ice receeded in the last week of February and fish have begun feeding. We're catching fish on a wide variety of nymphs: the Halfback, Bitch Creek, Twenty-Incher, Hare's Ear, every variety of Prince and Copper John, flashback Pheasant Tails, midge and blue winged olive nymphs, Pat's Rubber Leg Stone and of course the San Juan Worm and egg patterns. Fish are concentrated in deep water. You might get blanked in several consecutive pools, then hit 2-6 fish all hanging together. When you hook a fish, slow down and fish carefully. Action before noon is slow going, but steady through the afternoon. The trout aren't shutting down until around 5:00 pm.

Descriptions
1. The San Miguel River is a nice freestone. It is a fantastic destination
for fly anglers looking for wild trout. Brook, rainbow, brown, cuttbow,
and cutthroat trout are present. Some fly anglers have reported fish in
the 20 plus inch range.
