2 - GOOD on 05/07/2010
The Little North Santiam is still running a bit on the high side, but is clearing nicely. Will be in great shape for the weekend with clear skies forecasted for the area. Most of the steelhead have moved into the upper reaches and will likely still be spawning. Please give the spawners so space to "do their thing".

1 - EXCELLENT on 04/19/2010
This time of year most of the fish will be in the upper reaches of the river pairing up and looking for spawning beds. Best to leave the spawners alone, but targeting the usual group of "onlookers" can be productive.

1 - EXCELLENT on 04/09/2010
The river is dropping and clearing nicely follow the rain from the last several storms. The water is on the cold side of the scale, so putting a fly in the right place will be critical. The fish are spread throughout the river.

2 - GOOD on 04/05/2010
The river began clearing and dropping quickly following the rain the past couple weeks. Fish are spread throughout the river, but more so in the upper reaches this time of year.

We still have very stable river conditions here. Low and clear. Stick with the smaller, more subtle fly patterns - size 6 & 8.

2 - GOOD on 03/01/2010
Holding steady at 4-4.5 ft. this week with little change expected. The flow and depth have been stable for quite a while now. Fish will be settled in the deeper pools. Fish deep my friends!

1 - EXCELLENT on 02/16/2010
Stable water flow and mild weather are in store for the next several days. Mid-Afternoon bug hatches have been spotted with the air temps about 50-55 degrees. Summer and Winter Steelhead are spread throughout the river.

1 - EXCELLENT on 02/08/2010
The Little North Santiam is running low and clear. Downsize your patterns and go with duller colors. Fish are a little spooky and have plenty of visibility.

1 - EXCELLENT on 02/04/2010
The Little North is still in prime shape. This week's rain has had little impact other than to increase depth and flow slightly. Clarity is still "steelhead green".

1 - EXCELLENT on 01/29/2010
This river is still running low and clear and has a good number of holdover summer steelhead along with fresh winter run fish beginning to show up. Most of these fish are natives, so release them with care.

1 - EXCELLENT on 01/26/2010
The river is running low and clear this week and is in great shape of winter steelhead fishing. Good numbers of fish are spread out from the convergence with the N Santiam up to Salmon Falls. Go with smaller profile and muted colored flies in the clear water. BE SURE TO RELEASE ALL WILD FISH! There is a mix of both wild and hatchery raised fish in this river so please check for an adipose fin.

1 - EXCELLENT on 01/20/2010
The river is really coming into shape this week and has dropped into the "sweet spot" at 4.1 feet. Steelhead are in the system, both fresh winter metalheads and holdover summer stock.

3 - FAIR on 01/17/2010
The river is running pretty high right now and rising. Fish the seams and soft water where you can find it.

4 - POOR on 12/21/2009
Too much water moving through and expected to keep rising. May take a few days to recover. Find a cut-bank with some slow water for any hope at all.

2 - GOOD on 12/20/2009
The river is dropping and looking nice ... Steelhead Green. More rain is heading this way so it will only be fishable for a couple days before getting out of shape again. That's how it works here in Oregon.

4 - POOR on 12/16/2009
What a difference a couple days makes! Warmer weather and some rain the past 2 days has moved the river from 190 cfs to 3830 cfs. The river is blown out. Nice thing about the LNF is that it recovers quickly. This rush of water should also pull some fish in when the recovery starts.

3 - FAIR on 12/14/2009
Currently, the river is iced over in places with a good quantity of ice along the edges. With warmer weather forcasted for the week, the bulk of this ice should melt and the river will be fishable again soon.
