Trip reports

2 - GOOD on 04/20/2010
Fished a small class A brookie stream yesterday with 2 friends. We caught around 15 fish total. All fish were caught on Ausable Wulffs. (04/20/2010 at 07:14 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 04/08/2010
Went up to Mud Creek on 4/7. Caught one very small brown trout. First time I've been up there. Not the best time fishing but I will return. (04/08/2010 at 11:24 AM by krebster)

2 - GOOD on 04/06/2010
Fished a small wild trout stream that feeds into the Poho. I was expecting to catch brookies but caught only browns and 1 rainbow. Not sure how the rainbow got into this location. There were caddis hatching throughout the morning. Looking forward to getting back to this stream in a few weeks. (04/06/2010 at 08:58 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 04/06/2010
Fished Furnace Run, a class a brookie stream, with a buddy on 4/3. The stream is very small and choked with Rhodadendron. I caught 6 or 7 with the largest being about 8". All fish were caught on an orange wulff. (04/06/2010 at 08:55 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 04/05/2010
Fished the afternoon of April 3rd for a few hours. Caught two small native brown trout. (04/05/2010 at 07:36 AM by krebster)

4 - POOR on 03/22/2010
Fished Muddy Creek in York County for about 2-1/2 hours on 3/21. The water was high and cloudy due to recent rains. I was able to get a few fish to hit my streamer but couldn't land any. There were several people fishing in the 75 degree spring afternoon. (03/22/2010 at 12:22 PM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 03/16/2010
Fished a small spring creek with a friend for a few hours on 3/13. I was guiding more on this stream and let my friend fish most of the water. He missed a few on a bugger and caught 1 one a BWO dry. The rain was coming down in sheets and the wind made casting nearly impossible as this is a classic spring creek in the middle of a field. (03/16/2010 at 07:24 AM by fly_flinger)

4 - POOR on 03/16/2010
Fished Cherry Run, a trib to Fishing Creek, on 3/13 with a friend. The stream is a brookie stream that looked like a river due to the monsoon that was upon us. No fish were caught but it was decided that we would be back when conditions were more favorable. (03/16/2010 at 07:19 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 02/16/2010
Scouted a small spring creek for about 2 hours on 2/15. It's actually 2 spring creeks that meet to form a third. There were tons of fish rising in one of the springs. The other had no fish in it. I walked the center of the stream for about a mile and didn't see any sign of life other than ducks. I didn't catch any of the risers yesterday but will be back in the future to get a few. (02/16/2010 at 07:09 AM by fly_flinger)

2 - GOOD on 02/02/2010
Fished a small limestoner on 1/30. Upon our arrival there were fish rising to midges. The air temp was 18, water temp 48. We fished to rising trout between periods of exploration. The water was very clear and the fish were extremely spooky. I managed to catch 1-5" brown on a #20 midge dry. (02/02/2010 at 11:17 AM by fly_flinger)

1 - EXCELLENT on 11/04/2009
Fished a small Class A brookie stream for 4 hours on 11/2. Between my friend and I we caught about 20 fish ranging from 4" to 12". Many of the fish were beautifully colored. (11/04/2009 at 08:05 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 11/04/2009
Fished a small Class A tributary to the First Fork of the Sinnemahoning. I thought I would be catching brookies and ended up catching a 12" wild brown. I only fished for about an hour and caught only 1 fish. (11/04/2009 at 07:57 AM by fly_flinger)

2 - GOOD on 05/20/2009
Fished a small class a brookie stream on 5/14 for about 4 hours. There were a few march browns and caddis hatching but nothing to bring the fish up. We managed to catch about 10 fish on Gray Foxes and Royal Coachmans. (05/20/2009 at 08:03 AM by fly_flinger)

1 - EXCELLENT on 04/27/2009
Fished a small Class A- wild brook trout stream for about 4 hours on Saturday. 2 of us caught 28 brookies ranging from 3-1/2" to 9". All fish were taken on dry flies. (04/27/2009 at 08:13 AM by fly_flinger)

3 - FAIR on 04/21/2009
Fished a very small class a brookie stream on 4/17. We saw 3 fish and caught 1- 5" brookie. There were a few quill gordons hatching. (04/21/2009 at 10:21 AM by fly_flinger)

2 - GOOD on 03/10/2009
Fished a small SEPA class A Sunday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. There were midges and tiny stoneflies hatching throughout the day. I only saw 2 fish rise however. One of which made me change my nymphs to a dry and he was caught on the 5th or 6th cast. All other browns were caught on midge pupas, baetis and PT nymphs. (03/10/2009 at 08:26 AM by fly_flinger)

Imagine a 17th century Dutch painting, with rolling farms and a gentle gradient river flowing through a picturesque valley, and you've just described Maryland's Casselman River.

Winter steelhead season is now upon us (The Mercury)
I think there’s no better name in all of fishingdom than “steelhead.” The descriptive tag at once evokes power and strength -- two attributes of which the steelhead is in full supply. However, their appropriate appellation still does not convey a sense of beauty as it omits the aura of the wide, sun...
