My wife and I love the Mesa Trail due to its proximity to Boulder. But
that benefit can also be the reason it gets super crowded. We do love the
Mesa Trail though. We park at the NCAR building and take the pups for a
nice hike there. There are plenty of trail options within the Mesa Trail
system so you can visit several times without repeating the same hike.
After the first descent away from NCAR it becomes pretty peaceful and you
wouldn't know you were just in Boulder 5 minutes ago. The trail is mostly
dirt and rock and has plenty of vegetation. Plenty of little creeks wind
around and through the system making for some nice wildlife and wildflower
viewing. It's tree lined, scenic, and close. Give it a shot!
