South Pine is a unique fly fishing stream because it is small but contains
the largest naturally reproducing population of brook trout in Iowa. Catch
and release is a must here. Analysis conducted on the brook trout in South
Pine Creek indicates that this population is distinct from strains in
Wisconsin and Minnesota. These brookies trout are used to establish brook
trout populations in additional Iowa streams.
