Paint Creek is Southeast Michigan's only designated trout stream. This
creek is actually the size of a small river and it offers plenty of great
fishing opportunities. This coldwater creek is home to both brown and
rainbow trout.
Paint Creek offers anglers the feel of being on an "up
north" spring creek while being just miles from the nearest city. The
creek contains plenty of riffles and runs that trout like to hide out in.
The Paint also has alot of woody debris and over-hanging vegetation that
trout love. The woody debris and surrounding vegetation often makes Paint
Creek difficult for the beginning fly fisherman. To effectively fish the
creek a shorter rod is recommended.
Throughout the year Paint Creek
receives various hatches including several different caddis species,
mayflies, and even some stoneflies. The creek also has a great ant
"hatch" in the later part of the season.
Paint Creek is a great fishery
for anyone that wants to catch trout close to home.
