The E. Verde River at present is stocked spring and fall, however it
becomes too warm during the summer months for stocking. However Salt River
Project will begin releasing 30cfs of water down the river this next
spring. Our local club (Payson Flycasters), and soon to be new chapter of
Trout Unlimited (Gila Trout Chapter), will be working on a project to
hopefully restore Gila trout to the upper reaches of the river and to
return the rest of the river to a wild trout stream with the increased
water flows. At present the upper headwaters has a wild trout population
of rainbow trout.
